Sažetak
As a part of the pre-accession process to the European Union, Croatia has the opportunity to use financial resources from the European Union Budget through the pre-accession EU funds. The aim of these financial resources is to support Croatian development goals and speed up the growth and development of the economy and society in their entirety. Some of these funds are specially designed for the business sector, but public available data show that these funds are poorly used by Croatian entrepreneurs and companies. The aim of this paper is to identify the main reasons why there is a lack of interest in Croatian business sector in using the pre-accession EU funds, considering the banks' point of view. The empirical research of this paper is conducted in the summer 2010, on the sample of 34 Croatian banks. The research instrument was a questionnaire designed for the purpose of this research. The research results suggest that the main reasons for low interest in the use of the pre-accession EU funds among Croatian entrepreneurs and companies are the following: lack of information, lack of collateral, demanding criteria and pessimistic attitude.
