Sažetak
Libraries have long been involved with social policy issues, providing special services to targeted groups such as young people, the elderly, handicapped, ethnic and linguistic minorities, etc. providing services to these groups under the banner of progressive social policy. In Central and Eastern Europe after the fall of the Soviet Union, more focus has been placed on issues relating to the Open Society and the "Civil Society" and the role of libraries supporting these concepts.. This paper reviews the role of the involvement of libraries in social policy as related to the "Civil Society." Globalization of Information issues are explored with a focus on the impact globalization has had in the concept of information as an economic commodity. The library's role in defining and establishing information policies relating to the globalization of information is analyzed from the global, regional and local perspective.
