Sažetak

The topic of this research is the investigation of students' perception of content and methods of entrepreneurial education, as well as the general climate within the University of Novi Sad in preparing them for future entrepreneurial career. The key research question was to explore the impact of those elements on increasing students' competitiveness in the new economy. The research method was a survey realized during the 2008 on the sample of 653 students from the five faculties of the University of Novi Sad. The main findings of this research indicate that prevailing number of students are not satisfied with the quality of entrepreneurial education and thinks that they are not preparing enough for the entrepreneurship. Specifically, students underline the missing opportunities for participating in the projects and exercises which could educate them to implement their theoretical knowledge in creating innovative and competitive business project. Furthermore, they do not find enough positive entrepreneurial role models within university institutions. Finally, students have experienced the whole climate at the University as not open and not encouraging enough for accepting new ideas and innovations. Thus, the lack of stimulating students' creativity as a crucial factor of competitiveness is obvious. General conclusion of the research is that entrepreneurial education by its contents and methods does not meet the needs of entrepreneurial economy. The implications of those findings underline the necessity of changing the curricula of entrepreneurial education at the University of Novi Sad. The first step should be the increasing level of quality of the subjects in the area of the entrepreneurship. The second step is to enrich the existing subject with the entrepreneurial approach and contents as obligatory part.
