The logic of triple gaps suggests that if economy is to be in full employment equilibrium all the variables in the system must be in equilibrium. Hence, they are hardly ever in Goldilocks state. The aim of this paper is to extend twin deficit hypothesis towards triple deficit nexus in order to analyze fundamental disequilibrium of the Croatian economy. Focusing on trade deficit developments some mediating macroeconomic variables are also included in the analysis. Empirical estimation relies on bounds-testing approach to cointegration (ARDL) and error-correction modelling on quarterly data over 2000-2012. Following some plausible results that are consistent with Croatian economic ambient as well as to empirical grasps, a brief explanation is offered.
