Nowadays firms struggle to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Accordingly, firms craft strategies to overcome adverse effects and most of them promise results such as improving efficiency, improving productivity, higher job satisfaction, … however, many of them fail. So, what goes wrong? Do we implement strategies the right way? A part of the problem probably lies in the fact that strategies need to be understood and articulated to help the organization overcome a series of cross-functional activities and relationships of people. In other words, more attention should be paid to business processes. Based on the above considerations, the aim of this chapter is to discuss and analyze how business process orientation influences the accomplishment of strategy, as well as to discuss the necessary preconditions. After the theoretical part, the paper presents the results from a research conducted in Croatia in the services sector (hotel industry).
