Sažetak
The Memorial Centre Nikola Tesla was formally opened on July 10th, 2006, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Tesla’s birth. The Memorial Centre was built under the sponsorship of the Government of the Republic of Croatia. It has a very important role in science, local economic development, community cohesion and attracting tourists to Lika-Senj County. It is located in Smiljan, a birthplace of Nikola Tesla - a researcher, an inventor, a genius. From its opening until the end of 2008, The Memorial Center was visited by over 130 000 visitors from all over the world. During 2009 and 2010, Nikola Tesla MC was visited by more than 20 000 paying customers and in 2011 the number of paying customers increased by 25 percent. The concept of the Memorial Centre is the coexistence of a variety of content - from the already existing Birth house and associated economic facility, the Church of St. Apostles Peter and Paul, cemetery, stone monuments and benches by architect Zdenko Koalicija to newly constructed facilities - a porch, parking, hiking trails, a monument by sculptor Mile Blažević, auditorium, prototypes in 1:1 scale - Tesla's lab from Colorado Springs, a Tesla turbine, Tesla's boat on the remote control, then the bridge/platform, multimedia center, HI-TEC playground, ambient lighting and its upgrading and expansion. When visiting the center, the guest is informed about the entire visiting program (that lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes), he/she is acquainted with the beautiful Lika area where Nikola Tesla, a researcher, an inventor, a genius, was born. At the end of the business year 2011 the Nikola Tesla Memorial Centre was employing 10 employees. The average age of employees of Memorial Center is 28 years. The Memorial Center is designed to integrate several disciplines: science, art, tourism and it brings together different types of users: children of preschool age, school children, students, retirees, tourists, locals, Tesla's fans, media artists, etc. Memorial Center emphasizes its focus on the socially responsible marketing through social responsibility toward environmental and educational projects in collaboration with various scientific and cultural institutions, and granting free entry into the Memorial Centre for people with special needs and special status. The Memorial Centre is dedicated to creating solid links with the community and a better understanding of its needs and requirements.
