Sažetak
The question of globalization and fiscal consequences is becoming more and more important. One of the consequences of internationalization is higher environmental requirements. Different approaches were used to fulfil these requirements in the past, while economic instruments for environmental protection have played an important role recently. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a global problem, but countries did not approach this problem with the same level of seriousness. With the Kyoto protocol, circumstances have changed for the countries which signed it, including Slovenia. It is one of the first countries in Europe and the first among the transition economies to introduce the CO2 tax as early as 1997. The CO2 tax has changed several times, especially from the point of view of competitiveness and environmental effectiveness. However, we should keep in mind that the CO2 tax alone is not enough to reach Kyoto targets. For these reasons Slovenia is also introducing other measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We will analyze the adopted and foreseen measures for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Slovenia, measures which should help the country to realize the Kyoto targets.
