Sažetak
The purpose of this paper is to study the problems of optimizing capital structure. Until recently, this topic has not been explored in business environments, because most of the firms in transition economies lacked access to stable long-term financing, whether in the form of long-term loans or equity financing. However, with the improvement of the overall economic environment, optimization of the capital structure became an important problem for many firms in transition economies. The article considers the following essential factors that need to be taken into account for optimizing capital: tax legislation, systematic environment risk, possible conflicts of interest, quality of assets and the availability of financing. The influence of each factor on optimizing decisions is shown. Finally, it is noted that decisions on capital structure optimization cannot be taken in isolation from other pertinent factors.
