Sažetak
The main purpose of the research is to declare a sustainable development as a guiding vision for the present and next generations, and disclose existing problems in current practice. Some conclusions and proposals are worked out for improving particular solutions. It deals with the discussing theoretical issues of sustainable development strategies based on the new paradigm principles those meets the challenges of environment and development of national economy. A core set of indicators for monitoring progress of sustainable development strategies in EU membership countries is analyzed. Process of implementation elements of sustainable development strategy in national economy of Latvia is discussed with identification its influence on living level of society. Economic and legislation solutions for socially responsible investments mainly in so called "green energy" production and consumption show different side effects and are under active discussions in country. Other issue is connected with consequences of social responsibility and real living level. Data from Eurostat and SCB of Latvia are used. Conclusions are presented.
