The work highlights the need for the application of ISO 14001, a more advanced form of enviromental considerations and actions for the purpose of pollution control and enviromental protection. The ceration and purpose of these standards is biefly listed. Analytical process of considering the impact of ISO 14001 on market competitiveness and business strategy in shipbuilding is clarified through the objectives, methodology and results of research. With the intention of indicating the today's key enviromental issues, as well as the need for enviromental awareness of human population and leaders of organizations, it is necessary to encourage businesses to peronally take care of reducing pollution. Therefore, there is a need for the adoption and further advancement of ISO 14001, which will result in knowledge substantiated competitive advantages due to the application of these standards.
