One of the main features of the contemporary world has been the continued growth in the relative size of the public sector in both developing and developed countries. In particular, after the Second World War, the phenomenon of public expenditure growth happened almost universally and regardless of the nature of the political or economic system concerned. The role and dimension of the government in a country have been explored from different perspectives in the economic literature. The phenomenon of public expenditure growth has been subject for researchers to find out what causes or has affects on it. The existence of an optimal government share in the economy has been subject to considerable theoretical debate and sustained empirical assessment. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the dynamics of public spending in EU countries and Croatia
