Sažetak

Utility companies have an irreplaceable role in ensuring living conditions of population and efficiency increase of utility services is one of the prerequisites for increasing the efficiency of entire economy. Therefore, they have to behave as if they were the entrepreneurs themselves, which means that they should keep in mind to cut down the costs as much as possible, and to level up the quality of their services as well as their customer relationship. In this regard, the utility companies must make greater efforts in marketing and in its promotion. A very important role in achieving this goal has the Internet, because it provides endless possibilities for promotion of utility companies, their services, concepts and ideas, and thereby improves their corporate image. However, utility companies in the Republic of Croatia still have not understood this and therefore they do not invest the efforts necessary in their promotion on the Internet. The consequence is that the image of utility companies and the services they provide is not very impressive. In the context of the above-mentioned problems, the subject of research of this paper is to investigate relevant features of utility activities, the role and tasks of promotion of utility companies, importance of the Internet in promotion of utility companies, and forming a quality website of utility companies. In connection with the subject of research, the fundamental hypothesis is that in the modern information society, quality website is a very important factor in promoting and improving the image of utility companies. Based on this, with the help of the proposed guidelines for managing the sites, each utility company can design a website that will improve its promotion and corporate image. The problem and the subject of research as well as the hypothesis have determined the aims and objectives of the research in order to determine importance of utility companies in the overall economy and importance of the Internet in promotion of utility companies, analyze the website of Utility Company Autotrolej in Rijeka and propose guidelines forits improvement in order to promote this utility company and its services, and also to improve its image in public. In this regard, the desk research has been conducted, using different combinations of scientific methods, including the inductive and deductive method, analysis and synthesis, methods of description, the compilation method and the method of case study.
